Another Method of Gear Cutting is Shaping

This is done when hobbing is not an option. Raycar’s gear shapers enable us to cut internal gear teeth and internal splines per required customer specifications. All shaping is done at Raycar using multiple shapers each offering variable sizes allowing us to better control efficiency and delivery.

Our capacity for internal gear shaping is up to 12 inches in diameter. Our equipment allows us to shape external gears up to 14 inches in diameter.

Keyways are an Important Aspect of Gear Manufacturing

As pictured in the lower right corner, our Davis Keyseater produces the majority of Raycar’s keyways. We have the ability to run high volume, production size orders, as well as, one or two pieces per order. Over the years, we have accumulated a wide variety of broaches used to cut our keyway requirements. Our Keyway Shaper, with a 4 inch stroke length, also shapes keyways and blind keyways of standard and unusual sizes.
